EPL Necropsy Teams Capable of Providing Specialized DART Necropsies
We are pleased to announce that EPL’s necropsy teams have received specialized training in support of Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology (DART) necropsies. Training in techniques used for DART studies was provided by Dr. Stephen Harris at Smithers Avanza Toxicology Services.
DART training is focused primarily on the recognition of skeletal abnormalities (e.g., the presence or absence of ossification), bone morphometry (measured length and area), relationships between bones, abnormal bone fusion, and the presence of additional bony structures or sutures, in Day 21 rat fetuses and Day 29 rabbit fetuses. Handling, restraint, sex determination, euthanasia protocols, and C-sectioning methods were reviewed for each species, in addition to fetal external examination procedures and the appropriate use of gross lesion descriptions.
EPL appreciates the excellent training provided by Dr. Harris, and is excited at the opportunity to provide this type of support in concert with Smithers Avanza staff. EPL is now ready to provide specialized necropsy support for DART studies conducted by Smithers Avanza or other clients.
