Rodent carcinogenicity studies are conducted to determine the potential hazard of a test article on the development of cancer during a lifetime of exposure. The data derived from these studies are critical for regulatory agencies in their risk assessment of the test article. The histopathologic evaluation of tissues from the exposed animals is a pivotal segment of the risk assessment and relies on the consistent application of standard diagnostic criteria across the large numbers of tissues examined. The pathologists at EPL have many years of experience evaluating tissues from carcinogenicity studies and are the premier source for the review of carcinogenicity studies evaluated at other laboratories via the pathology peer review process. In addition to standard staining methodology, special preparations may be included to further characterize lesions seen in the tissues.
